Paul Koontz


Paul joined Foundation Capital as a General Partner in 1996 and has focused his investment activity on internet technologies and financial services. He currently serves as chairman of Financial Engines (NASDAQ: FNGN) and is on the board of Bolt Threads. Paul formerly served as a director of eBates (acquired by Rakuten), Envestnet (NYSE: ENV), United Online (NASDAQ: UNTD) and Onyx Software (NASDAQ: ONXS).

Prior to Foundation Capital, Paul was the initial vice president of marketing at Netscape, preceded by positions at Silicon Graphics and Hewlett Packard. He has served as board chair of Summit Preparatory Charter High School, named one of ten “transformative high schools” in the US by Newsweek in 2011. He has also lectured at Stanford and served with other not for profit community based organizations.

He holds degrees from Princeton and Stanford.
