Anamitra Banerji, Venture Partner

What he invests in: Anamitra invests in consumer startups building large-scale networks of users, and consumer marketing startups helping businesses reach and engage users.

Anamitra became a Partner in December 2012 after a stint as an Entrepreneur-in-Residence (EIR) at Foundation Capital.

His operating career: He came to Foundation after spending eight years leading product management at Twitter, Yahoo! and Overture. Before working in product roles, Anamitra was a software engineer in the enterprise data space. He also co-founded an online healthcare company, PlanetHealthOnline, during the '98-'00 boom-bust.

Anamitra joined Twitter as its 30th employee and first product manager. He built out and led Twitter's monetization team while incubating from scratch – and scaling -- all three advertising products: promoted tweets, promoted trends and promoted accounts.

When not with founders: Anamitra is an avid soccer fan and follows Liverpool football club. He used to play competitively at the under-18 level and continues to play today, albeit less competitively. He is also a coffee aficionado; his favorite blend is the Jacobs at Phiz Coffee in Noe Valley. He lives in San Francisco with his wife and son.

Training: Bachelors degree in Electronics Engineering from the National Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur, India, and an MBA from Cornell University

The best piece of advice he ever got: “The highs aren’t too high, the lows aren’t too low.”
