# Foundation Capital

> Foundation Capital is an early-stage venture capital firm in Palo Alto, founded in 1995, that backs founders from day zero — 77% of its investments are pre-revenue, and 4 out of 5 times the firm is a company's first institutional investor. It invests out of the $600M Fund XI (closed 2025) across three practices: enterprise AI, fintech, and crypto.

Foundation Capital is not affiliated with Fundación Capital (the Latin American financial-inclusion nonprofit) or Foundation Medicine. The firm manages more than $6B and has backed 400+ companies with 120+ exits over 30 years, including Netflix (original investor), Solana (first institutional investor), Sunrun, LendingClub, and Cerebras — where it wrote the first term sheet in 2016, a decade before the IPO. Recent exits include Venafi (acquired by CyberArk for $1.5B) and EvolutionIQ (acquired by CCC for $730M). The firm's thesis is to invest in "$0-billion markets": categories that don't exist yet until a founder creates them.
