Oded Horovitz, Entrepreneur-in-Residence
Oded Horovitz joined Foundation as an EIR in August 2011, bringing expertise in information security and virtualization. Oded recently left VMware, where he served five years as a Senior Staff Engineer in the networking and security solution group. Most recently Oded has worked on the vShield Endpoint product, a platform targeted for VMware security partners to virtualize endpoint security and move traditional endpoint agents away from virtual machines, and onto the VMware hypervisor. Prior to working on vShield Endpoint, Oded has worked on VMware's VMsafe (now vCompute), a platform for virtual machine introspection at the vMemory and vCPU level, and has served as a member of VMware's architecture review board, a body reviewing key technological projects within the company.
Prior to VMware, Oded spent three years at McAfee as the head of security research and response team backing McAfees Host Intrusion Prevention product. He and his team were responsible for responding to the daily events of computer hacking and vulnerability disclosures and generate defensive update to McAfee HIPS product. Oded was also responsible for defining and designing new defense capabilities into McAfee's HIPS product to proactively defend against future attacks based on pattern of attacks found in the wild, as well as trends within the hacking community. He also helped McAfee's Anti-virus group with the porting of selected HIPS capabilities into the McAfee's main Anti-virus product line.
Prior to McAfee, Oded spent five years as the Chief Architect and later as Chief Security Research at Entercept. Joining Entercept as one of the first engineers, he was heading the development of Entercept's HIPS agent for Windows OS. Oded is the co-inventor of four critical Entercept patents covering run-time capabilities of the HIPS agents as well as its core defensive policies. Oded spent the last two years at Entercept, following security trends and establishing credibility within the security community. He has given talks in multiple security conferences, and has released papers to the community covering defensive and offensive topics. Entercept was acquired by McAfee in mid-2003.
Prior to Entercept, Oded served six years as a software engineer in the IDF (Israel Defense Force). He took on multiple roles during the service in the IDF, developing various data processing applications. As part of the service in the IDF, Oded graduated MAMRAM computer professions school which started his career and passion for software development.
As an EIR at Foundation, Oded is working on a new technology in the security and the privacy space.
